A MECHANIC with the "fourth emergency service" had to call out the fire brigade after his AA van caught fire.
The man was attending a call on Plodder Lane, Farnworth when the engine started burning yesterday. As he was fixing an AA member's vehicle, he spotted flames and smoke pouring from his own van. The quick thinking mechanic managed to extinguish the blaze before firefighters arrived on the scene. He had left the van running while he attempted to fix an AA member's car.
Station officer Brian Wiggans from Bolton Central fire station said the fire was caused by an electrical fault.
