GREEN Hall School in Atherton has been praised by OFSTED inspectors for its work with pupils who have moderate learning difficulties.

The Government team visited the school in April. The resulting report states: "Green Hall School has many strengths. The quality of teaching is often good and for most pupils satisfactory.

"The behaviour of pupils, the successful promotions of their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, together with support in careers and work experience are strengths of the school.

"Most of the pupils show a positive attitude and settle quickly to their work. They are enthusiastic and concentrate well in what they are asked to do."

Overall attendance was found to be at 86 per cent, but the inspectors were pleased to see that the school was working to improve this. They recognised that the figures were affected by a small number of pupils who were non attenders.

Head teacher, Tony Triska, said: "This recognition is yet another achievement for a fine school, which has already received a Schools Curriculum Award 1990 and a 'highly commended' Charter Mark certificate in 1996. Our successes are down to team work in the truest sense.

"The school was already aware of some of the recommendations made by the inspectors and plans are already in place to ensure continuing improvement and development."
