STAUNCH Labour supporter Frances Mann believed to be one of the oldest living Boltonians celebrates her 106th birthday today.

The former Lostock woman received her traditional telegram from the Queen and a red rose from the Labour Party.

Mum-of-six Frances, who now lives in Anglesey with her daughter, still has relatives living in Bolton and was described as "very lively" by her daughter-in-law Jessie Mann of Bradshaw.

Jessie said: "She is a marvellous woman who was very well-known in the Lostock area where she lived alone until she was 101.

Frances was expected to celebrate quietly with family and friends.

Jessie added: "She is a staunch Labour supporter and was delighted when they finally got in at the general election.

"She has received a rose for the last few years from the Labour Party but this year it will have special meaning."

Frances has 17 grand children and 24 great grandchildren.
