DIVORCED dads will no longer have to trail their kids round Astley Park on wet Saturday afternoons.
For a band of churchgoers have come up with a novel scheme to bring children closer to parted parents.
Members of Euxton Methodist Church and Soroptomists International of Chorley are setting up a contact centre where children from separated families can meet with parents in comfort and safety.
The centre will open three times a month at the Millfield Road church, where volunteers will be on hand to help the sessions run smoothly.
Dorothy Ashton, treasurer of Euxton Contact Centre, said: "We hope to create a welcome environment where children can build a relationship with their absent parent.
"Hopefully the trust and confidence between parents will grow so they can eventually make their own contact arrangements.
"This project demonstrates our commitment to the local community. But we need more funds to finance the heating and lighting of the church premises, as well as buying toys and games and covering other costs."
The centre will open from 2pm to 4pm every second, third and fourth Saturday of the month. Anyone wishing to make a donation or find out more about the project should ring Dorothy on 279489.
