MUM Ann Hoskins claims her toddler daughter "could have been killed" when a supermarket trolley in which she was sitting fell over. Shannon Hoskins, two, was left badly bruised following the accident in the Asda car-park in Farnworth. The youngster was in the childseat of the trolley as Mrs Hoskins pushed it to the trolley "park" after completing a teatime shopping expedition.

Mrs Hoskins, 33, said: "I didn't have a lot of shopping in the trolley so it wasn't the weight of the contents that forced it over.

"I was pushing the trolley and it suddenly fell over, with Shannon still in it."

Mrs Hoskins said Shannon was screaming and was very upset. "A passer-by helped me but no-one came out of Asda to help.

"Other people in the car park didn't come over either."

She said she had to sit on the floor for several minutes after the accident calming Shannon down.

"When we got home she was still very upset and it was very difficult to settle her."

Shannon was left with a bump on her head and bad bruising to her left leg.

Mrs Hoskins, a divorced mum with three daughters, believes her trolley may have tipped over after hitting an uneven piece of paving.

"But that shouldn't have been able to happen. Shannon could have been killed."

Mrs Hoskins said she did not report the incident to Asda because she was so "shaken up" by what had happened and immediately returned to the family's Regent Walk, Farnworth home.

Now she fears taking Shannon shopping with her again. "I use Asda a bit like my corner shop because I live so close to the store. But I won't put Shannon in a trolley again."

A spokesman for Asda said she was "very concerned" about what happened and someone from the Farnworth store would be visiting Mrs Hoskins to talk to her about the incident.

"We are obviously very upset about what happened and we want to try to find out exactly what occurred so we can prevent it happening to anyone else."
