A BLACK cat was christened "Lucky" by firefighters after getting trapped on the roof of a factory.

Young brothers Michael, 7, and Kieran, 4, Montgomery, of Bridgefield Street, Radcliffe, got their mum Tracey to call the fire brigade after they heard loud miaowing at a factory close to their home.

Tracey said: "The boys were playing out when they heard the cat.

"We felt sorry for it, so we called the fire brigade out."

Farnworth fireman Tony Chaplin climbed up a ten foot ladder to reach the noisy cat stuck behind cladding at the Church Street factory in Radcliffe.

Station officer Robert Coote said they could just see the cat's paw and hear it.

Mrs Montgomery has taken the cat in until a permanent home is found.
