SIR: I've never been Politically Correct in my life!" protested Cllr Peter D Johnston (Your Views, May 27).
He then immediately proceeded to contradict his protestations by displaying all the symptoms possessed by those unfortunate folk who have been bitten by the virus of Political Correctness. One such symptom is his "authoritarian bigots" smear directed against those who take the perfectly reasonable viewpoint that stricter school discipline and the re-introduction of corporal punishment for very serious offences (such as stealing the lead off the newly repaired school roof) should be considered.
I do hope Cllr Johnston reads his constituents' letters with more care than he reads mine. (Your Views,May 20). The item about the suspended careers teacher was intended to illustrate the tyrannical nature of Political Correctness, not to dictate how interviewees should dress as I'm sure everybody with the exception of the councillor realised.
My answer to his final question is in Equal Opportunities codewords: Yes Cllr Johnston, you may practice discrimination on me as much and as often as you like. My only proviso is that it takes the form of "positive" discrimination.
