SENIOR managers at British Nuclear Fuels in Risley hosted a high-powered delegation of Ukrainian ministers and the Ukrainian ambassador to the UK.
It was part of a tour of BNFL sites including Springfields, near Preston, and Sellafield in Cumbria. BNFL is bidding for a contract worth more than £50m for safe storage of the used fuel from the reactors at the Chernobyl site.
Their interim storage solution would involve construction of a dry spent fuel storage system. BNFL would supply design and technical expertise.
Construction and operation would be provided by the local people of the Ukraine. Mr Peter Winter, Head of Interim Storage for BNFL, said: "The Ukrainians are exploring options in the West."
