A "PEOPLE'S Power" lobby led by the Mayor of Bury will travel to London to fight Government imposed cuts.

Mayor Trevor Holt, councillors and representatives of local groups and organisations will travel to the Houses of Parliament on Monday.

Although the delegation is confident the visit will highlight the borough's plight, council leaders know it is unlikely to stop the £12m cuts which need to be implemented in April. The delegrates will meet the Shadow Environment Secretary, Frank Dobson and hope to meet Bury's two Conservative MPs.

Council leader, Cllr John Byrne said: "We feel that despite all the setbacks that we have had in recent years and the horrendous cuts that we have been forced to implement this time, we have got to continue working towards the future.

"There appears to be a growing consensus of opinion that Bury is treated unfairly."

As the council is unable to cover any travelling expenses, groups and individuals will have to pay their own way.

Those interested in taking part in the lobby should contact the mayor's office on 0161 253 5117.
