Bournemouth 1, Bury 1 BURY manager Stan Ternent left Dean Court convinced they should have picked up three points after referee Clive Wilkes did not award his side a clear-cut first half penalty.

The score was already 1-1 six minutes before the break when Bournemouth defender Ian Cox pushed Bury striker Mark Carter as they tussled for the ball inside the box.

Ternent said: "It was a blatant penalty. It was just ridiculous.

"Mark had the ball at his feet and Cox was all over him. But he (the ref) just waved play on. I couldn't believe it.

"But that is the ref's interpretation and we have to accept it."

Cox admitted pushing Carter but added: "The Bury lad was backing into me as well so it was all swings and roundabouts.

"I'm not complaining. We've had two dodgy penalties awarded against us in recent weeks so it was nice this one went our way."

Bury were also denied a Division Two success by two second half goal-line clearances.

First ex-Manchester United defender Russell Beardsmore headed David Pugh's 62nd minute effort away with some help from the bar, then Chris Lucketti's 87th minute header was hacked clear by John Bailey at the far post.

Bury had forged into an early lead thanks to Carter's brave glancing header.

He shrugged off the close attention of Bournemouth defender Owen Coll to steer Dean West's cross wide of home keeper Andy Marshall from 10 yards.

But the Shakers were caught cold when lowly Bournemouth equalised in the 16th minute through Bury-born Matt Holland.

They failed to clear Mike Dean's corner and when Dale Gordon's lay off landed at Holland's feet, he fired a low shot past keeper Kiely from close range.

Kiely and West combined to clear Steve Fletcher's low drive off the line as Bury survived a first half scare.

But it was the turn of Marshall to watch in relief as Johnson's bicycle kick flashed wide of a post as Bury searched for a second half winner.

Ternent was disappointed his side conceded a goal from a set piece. But he added: "It was a fair result in difficult conditions.

"We could have nicked it at the end but we are reasonably happy with a point away from home for the second time in two matches."
