DETECTIVES hunting a man, wanted after a vicious attack on his wife and mother-in-law, put a Boothstown school "under police guard" today.

Police security patrols were being made at Boothstown Methodist School which is attended by Graham Jones's three children.

The children - who are aged seven, six and four - witnessed the attack on their mother and grandmother last week.

The police watch on the school has been mounted although Mr Jones's children where not due to attend school today. The three youngsters are being cared for at a secret address.

The school patrol has been launched to ease the concern of parents and staff at the school which was due to re-open today after the half term holiday.

Police this lunchtime repeated appeals for the father-of-three to give himself following the vicious attack.

Mr Jones, 39, has not been seen since he attacked Mrs Kathleen Malvern who went to the rescue of her stabbed daughter at the family home at Hindburn Drive, Mosley Common.

Both Mrs Malvern, 57, and her daughter Susan Jones, 33, are currently under police guard at Hope Hospital. Mrs Malvern's condition is described as "poorly but stable and her daughter's condition is described as "improving."

Detectives fear for Mr Jones safety after his car was found abandoned near Pennington Flash in Leigh on Wednesday evening.

They say that despite continued appeals for Mr Jones to give himself up they have still not heard from him.

Mr Jones' sister Angela Ross has urged him to come forward.

Detectives from Swinton were today travelling down to Stevenage to speak to members of Mr Jones's family. Anyone who can help is asked to contact Swinton CID, tel: 0161 872 5050.
