PLANTS have gone missing overnight from front gardens at Highfield Drive, Farnworth.

Residents woke up this morning to find a trail of soil in the street and holes in their gardens where shrubs had stood on Monday.

Mrs Marie Grady spent nearly £40 on a cotoneaster about 12 months ago, which she says was a mass of red berries and just starting to look its best.

A furious Mrs Grady said: "It was there last night when I went to bed, but this morning it's gone. "There is soil all over the place. I am so incensed. The garden was looking really lovely."

Mrs Grady said several neighbours have also had plants stolen. A small conifer was dug up from one neighbour's garden and another neighbour had a patio tub full of plants taken.

Police have been notified.
