Wanderers looked down on their Division One rivals today determined to make the most of their flying start.

Colin Todd's side has shot to the top of the table with seven points from their opening three games.

Just two weekends into the new season they have given a clear indication that they can produce the form and the results to back their pledge to make a swift return to the Premiership.

Not surprisingly, confidence is sky high with Gerry Taggart declaring after Saturday's 3-1 win against Norwich: "We are capable of beating anyone."

The Northern Ireland international, who has been a major influence on the team's early season form, is confident the players have put the disappointment of relegation behind them.

"We always knew it was going to be a hard season in the Premiership," the big Ulsterman admitted, "but we've just had to put it out of our minds and make sure we bounced back.

"It's very early days yet but we've started off with a couple of good results and, hopefully we can carry on.

"This is a very hard division to get out of and we're going to have to be on top of our form every game we play. We've got to make sure things don't slip."

Taggart paid tribute to two-goal hero Nathan Blake, who had previously scored just once in Bolton colours since his £1.5 million transfer last December.

He said: "Nathan's been threatening to do that since the start of the season and, even before that, in the pre-season games. He said before the game that he thought he'd score two and he did."

Victory came at a cost for Wanderers. Already without Scott Sellars, who was unavailable with a thigh strain, they lost Scott Green with a groin injury to add to their casualty list.

Both will be under intensive treatment in an effort to be fit for next Sunday's Sky TV game at QPR.

Gudni Bergsson, who has missed the start of the season with an achilles injury, could be given an outing in the reserves this week.
