HEALTH bosses in Bolton and Wigan are going out to public consultation in a bid to shape maternity services most effectively.

On Wednesday, September 4, people in Wigan and Leigh will be given the opportunity to comment on maternity services at an informal meeting organised by the health authority.

The health authority, with the help of doctors, midwives and women using the service has already drawn up a framework which outlines the model for maternity services which they are looking to develop.

Brenda O'Driscoll, Director of Commissioning with the Health Authority, said: "It would be helpful for is to get the views of local women and their partners on these plans.

"It is important that those who have personal experience of maternity services are able to contribute to any plans to develop these services for the future."

Mr Chandler, Clinical Director for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, will also attend the evening to take part in the discussions on the range of services available and the choices women have for their pregnancy.

The meeting is set to start at 8pm and is expected to last no more than 90 minutes. It will take place in Bispham Methodist Church Hall, Billinge, and the health authority are keen for as many people as possible to attend.

Anyone wanting more information should contact Kath McKinstry at the Wigan office of the health authority on 01942 822894.

A meeting will also be held in Bolton to obtain the views on maternity services in the borough.
