THE directors of the London and North-Western Railway have just made some important alterations for the benefit of the pointsmen and signalmen in their employment. The alterations are general throughout the system, and are left to the superintendents of the different divisions to carry out. They are as follows: The wages of pointsmen and signalmen at all the important junctions and at all large stations, where deemed necessary, have been advanced from 1s to 2s 6d per week. At the same time a general reduction of working hours from twelve to eight daily has been made. At second class, or less important junctions, where there is less work to be done, the hours have been reduced from twelve to eight daily in alternate weeks.
