A SECURITY firm has stepped in to put a Breightmet pensioner in the "picture" - and give her peace of mind.

Liverpool-based firm Seelex has donated a closed circuit television system to make Mrs Beatrice Hester feel more secure at home.

The company, which has specially developed the Domineye TV Watchdog, presented Mrs Hester, 78, with the state-of-the-art system as part of a trial.

With the aid of a hidden spy camera installed near her front door, Mrs Hester can keep an eye on who ever turns up at her house. The camera relays pictures to Mrs Hester's television set so she can monitor her property from the comfort of her armchair.

Mrs Hester, who has lived in Breightmet for the past 45 years, commented: "I think it is a marvellous idea. I was very pleased when the company contacted me.

"Like many elderly people in the area I am worried about security. This will give me a bit of peace of mind."

Her daughter June Monk, of Winslow Road, Westhoughton, who visits her mum daily, agreed. "I think its smashing. Even though I visit her every day I will feel safer for her," said Mrs Monk.

Sales manager with Seelex, Karen Bretherton, explained that the system, which costs about £200, was very easy to use and was ideal for the elderly or people with mobility problems. Karen said: "Although this product has been on the market for the past six months we have not carried out any research as such.

"That is why we contacted Mrs Hester. We really want to know what she thinks."
