DIVISION One rivals Southend want Wanderers reserve midfielder Wayne Burnett ... but only on approval.
Colin Todd was ready to do business with the Shrimpers but blocked the £120,000 deal when he was asked to let Burnett take a trial at Roots Hall before any money changed hands.
"If they want him, they can buy him," the Burnden boss said today. "But there's no way we're letting him go on trial first."
The clubs have agreed the price for the former Leyton Orient and Blackburn Rovers player, who joined Wanderers from Plymouth for £100,000 in December. Orient are also reported to have shown an interest in the London-born 24-year-old who made just one Premiership appearance as substitute last season.
Todd, meanwhile, says he is mystified by suggestions that top French club Bordeaux have targeted Fabian de Freitas.
The Dutch striker appears to be surplus to requirements at Burnden but the manager says: "I'm not aware of any interest from Bordeaux."
Simon Coleman will miss tomorrow's friendly at Wrexham as he recovers from a calf strain he picked up during Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Hull. Scott Sellars is a doubtful starter after missing the Boothferry Park friendly but Gudni Bergsson, John McGinlay, Mixu Paatelainen and Andy Todd - all absent at the weekend - are back in training and likely to figure in the squad.
