WE have already stated our support for civic leaders who want to perform a face-lift on Victoria Square.

The latest conclusion by the planning committee is that the charity canopy, opened in 1984, should not be moved from its present site . While we appreciate the sentiments of those who want to leave the canopy where it is, we do not think any decisions should be made piecemeal.

Cllr John Handscomb has also thrown in a suggestion for wrought iron railings in front of the town hall. He thinks they would "set it off nicely". That may well be. But we are sure councillors will wait to take an overall view of all the proposals before any final decisions are made.
