MP David Young has married again in a top secret ceremony at Bolton register office. The widower, aged 68, has found happiness again with Labour party activist, widow Vera Dingwall. Labour party activists close to the couple were kept in the dark about the ceremony and were stunned but delighted to hear the news. An aide said today: "I know he has got married but that is all I know. He phoned me after he got married. He said I was the first to know and then told me to keep quiet. He did not want a lot of fuss making." Mr Young, who lost a bitter de-selection battle in Bolton South East in 1994, will retire after the next election. The Scottish born MP's first wife, Grace, died in 1992.

Vera Dingwall is the widow of David Dingwall who was a prominent Labour councillor in Bolton.

Mr Young has put his Breightmet house up for sale and in recent years has become a familiar figure in Labour circles at Bolton North East where his new wife lives.

Mr Young is currently out of the country.

The couple are rumoured to be honeymooning in Ceylon.
