CUSTOMERS cowered in terror as a thug smashed a glass security screen with the barrel of a shotgun during a Bolton post office raid yesterday.

The gunman threatened to shoot the sub postmaster and a customer after bursting in to the Kearsley post office in Manchester Road at 4.25pm.

The man demanded cash after pointing the gun at the postmaster and one of his customers.

He then smashed the glass screen on the post office counter with the barrel of the gun and escaped with an amount of cash.

The man left the post office on foot in the direction of Manchester.

The gun was not used and no-one was hurt.

The man is described as white, about 5ft 8in tall and about 28. He has a slim build, thin face, light brown curly hair, clean shaven, wearing sunglasses, canvas jeans, maroon and white horizontally striped T-shirt and a green baseball cap.

The man was carrying a light green canvas bag and a plastic Asda carrier bag. He spoke with a Merseyside accent.
