TOWN hall lawyers are today advising Bolton council to lift part of the covenant which prompted the bitter Birtenshaw land battle.

A report to be discussed in secret session at the Management and Finance committee will recommend councillors take steps to allow a bungalow to be built on the site of the Gate-house on Turton Road.

But nearby residents, who fought and lost a long standing battle to keep nearby fields green, believe this could open the floodgates for developers to build on the remaining 120 acres of open land.

One angry residents said: "They are going to do the same thing all over again and and before we know it that land will be covered in buildings."
