A LEE Bracey mistake sentenced Bury to final defeat in the Isle of Man tournament.

West Bromwich Albion skipper Bob Taylor capitalised on a poor clearance by the Shakers' goalkeeper five minutes before the break to clinch a close-fought victory in Douglas.

It was hard on Stan Ternent's men who created the best of the chances, most notably a clever Tony Rigby free kick in the final seconds which flashed inches wide of the woodwork.

Striker Taylor praised: "People made us favourites for the game and the competition and this was the hardest game we were given.

"They closed us down really well and didn't give us time to breathe on the ball. They made one bad mistake and got punished for it." Ternent, who takes his side to Radcliffe Boro to continue their pre-season preparations tomorrow night, added: "West Brom are a very good side and we didn't allow them one clearcut chance so I am really happy. We are progressing nicely."

Ternent's latest signing, £40,000 striker Ronnie Jepson, began training with his new teammates today.
