A CIRCUMSTANCE has occurred in a village near Sheffield which has caused a very painful sensation. A young man, son of a master builder there, had paid his addresses to the daughter of a grocer and draper. Their wedding was fixed to take place on Wednesday morning. As the bridegroom did not make his appearance down the stairs, his father went to his room, and found him lying in a pool of blood. He had cut his throat with a razor, but none of the larger vessels had been severed. Last night he was not out of danger. Intelligence of what had occurred was sent to the father of the bride, and on his proceeding to her room he found her dressed in her bridal costume, and arranging her bouquet. On hearing it she swooned, and remained in that condition for several hours. The order for the carriages was countermanded, the clergyman and the bridesmaids were communicated with, and the wedding breakfast was cleared away.
There are various rumours as to the cause of the occurrence. The one that receives most credence is that on Tuesday he received a letter threatening him with an action for breach of the promise he had made to marry another young lady in the same village.
