KEITH Hellawell, Chief Constable of West Yorkshire, has done a public service by highlighting the absurdity of the laws on prostitution.
Prostitution is not illegal when a woman sells sex on her own from a house or flat. But when two women do so they are operating an unlawful brothel.
Mr Hellawell's solution is to create licensed brothels which would enable some sort of public control and allow proceeds to be taxed.
Whether his suggestion is adopted or not, it is clearly about time the anomalies on the prostitution laws were clarified.
