POLICE today warned the elderly to take care after two separate incidents involving bogus officials in Swinton at the weekend.

Cash was taken from the home of an 81-year-old woman from Lyon Street at 5pm on Saturday by two men posing as officials from North West Water.

The men were white and about 5ft 10in tall. One was wearing a white shirt and dark trousers.

In the second incident, at about 2pm yesterday, two men approached the home of a woman, aged 93, from The Meadows in Cadishead.

They were again posing as Water Board officials and stole the woman's savings.

Detective Insprector Ray Towey of Swinton CID said: "We can't discount the possibility that the two incidents are linked.

"We are warning elderly people that Water Board officials do not work at the weekend.

"Householders should contact the company if they are in any doubt about an official."
