LEIGH RMI 5 BLACKPOOL 1
LEIGH RMI continued against Blackpool where they left off against Bolton Wanderers with their impressive pre-season form.
The young Seasiders were no match for the Railwaymen in a competitive game that saw a sparkling debut from Tom McKenna.
He scored one and had a hand in two more but it was his overall contribution that had assistant coach Kevin Booth singing his praises.
"Tom could be the signing of the century for us. His work rate and attitude are unbelievable. He took his goal well and laid on two more with pin-point accuracy."
Paul Wheeler blasted RMI into a third minute lead that was pegged back two minutes later when Paul Carden headed home a left wing cross from close range.
McKenna then provided a perfect cross that Keith Evans steered home before Evans and Edwards set up McKenna to curl in the third. Just after the break Chris Shaw rattled the post with a header after the skilful Mike Wallace had raced down the left and caught out the Blackpool defence with his deep cross.
Mid way through the half Mark Schofield headed home a McKenna corner before Shaw finally got on the score sheet. He latched onto a Jamie Fahey through ball, chipped the keeper before heading the bouncing ball into the empty net.
