MURDER squad detectives investigating the brutal killing of a former Farnworth divorcee have arrested a man in Liverpool.

The man, who is currently helping Devon and Cornwall Police with their inquiries into the death of Kathryn Sharples, was arrested on Saturday.

Detective Inspector Dave Rowe, who is leading the murder inquiry, said the arrest followed investigations in the North West.

Kathryn, aged 43, was found bludgeoned to death in the bedroom of her bedsit in Newquay last Monday.

A post mortem examination revealed she had been beaten around the head several times with a blunt heavy object.

The murder weapon has still not been found.

Kathryn, who had been married five times, moved to Cornwall from Farnworth about two years ago.

Police officers had travelled to Bolton and Manchester to speak to Kathryn's relatives, friends and associates.

Detective Inspector Rowe said the arrested man, who is not believed to be one of Kathryn's ex-husbands, was being questioned in Cornwall.

Throughout the week-long man hunt, Mr Rowe has maintained that Kathryn knew her killer because there were no signs of a forced entry.
