CHRIS Lucketti is preparing to return to pre-season training tomorrow still a Bury player.

Reports suggesting a deal with Notts County has been struck are without foundation while a number of other clubs believed to be interested are yet to make a firm move.

It would take a bid of at least the £500,000 Crystal Palace offered 12 months ago to tempt Bury to part with their player of the year for the last two seasons.

That figure will put off most interested parties with Lucketti - despite two magnificent seasons - yet to prove himself above the basement division.

It would not break Bury's heart if the interested clubs hold on to their money as they see bright young stars like Lucketti and fellow centre half Michael Jackson as the future of the club.

Lucketti has a year remaining of the lucrative contract he signed when choosing Bury ahead of Palace last summer and Bury would love to tie him up for longer.

The Shakers, who have been boosted by midfielder Lenny Johnrose's decision to sign a new two-year contract, are also continuing to talk to Jackson over an extension to his current deal.

Manager Stan Ternent is back at Gigg Lane this week following a two-week holiday and is hoping for a successful conclusion to new contract negotiations with midfielders Gary Brabin and Nick Daws and goalkeeper Gary Kelly.
