BOLTON Wanderers manager Colin Todd today welcomed the new Football League ruling which allows Division One clubs with three or more players on international duty to automatically postpone games.

The rule used to apply to teams with at least two players then was changed to force clubs to fulfil fixtures regardless of how many players they had on international duty before the latest rethink.

Todd said: "With so many World Cup qualifyers scheduled for the next 12 months we could foresee problems for clubs like ourselves and Manchester City in particular.

"I could see a situation where I would have been short of eight or nine players because of international demands.

"The League's ruling has taken some of the pressure off us and will ensure that fans will see my strongest possible team in every game."
