A POPULAR Bolton hairdresser has hung up his scissors after almost half a century of business.
Walter Russell, aged 69, set up his barber's shop in Chorley Old Road, in 1947 and cut hair until he closed the business last week.
He followed in the family tradition when he set up Walter Russell Gents' Hairdressers with the help of his parents.
Mr Russell and his wife Ivy are now looking forward to an active retirement at their home in Egerton.
Mrs Russell said: "A lot of things have changed - prices were about 9d for a haircut back then. But Walter has had a lot of loyal customers during the years and we wanted to say a public 'thank you' and goodbye to them."
