AN angry mum is demanding an inquiry after being told her central heating system is dangerous.

Beverley Lomax said she is annoyed because council workman gave the system the all-clear when she moved into the house in Mossfield Road, Kearsley, last autumn.

She called in the council in October on the advice of a British Gas engineer, who branded the hot air system dangerous and refused to switch it on. Beverley, aged 30, said a council engineer declared the system safe and reconnected the gas about 10 minutes after arriving at the two bed semi.

But she decided to have the heating re-checked when a doctor failed to find a reason why her daughter Maria, aged 14 months, was repeatedly vomiting during the night.

Another council workman immediately turned off the gas and told her the system was dangerous because the flue was blocked.

Now Beverley wants an inquiry to find out if the problem should have been spotted last October.

She said: "Obviously I was annoyed and upset when they told me the flue was blocked.

"Maria has been sick every night for just over a week.

"If I had not called them out it could have been much, much worse."

A spokesman for the council said their engineers were looking at the problem.
