BOLTON United Harriers Senior Ladies travelled to Barnsley for the second round of the Jubilee Cup, knowing they faced a tough struggle with the team badly depleted.

Though there were only seven competitors, their spirits were high and they produced some of the best performances of the season.

Audrey Foster showed her determination by using an improvised glove for the hammer event.

Ladies captain Penny Hope ran her fastest time of the season in the first track event, the 800m.

Carol Allan had driven over from her home in Southport to run the 100m, 400m and relay.

Young Emma Richardson did five events and, in between events, she was doing revision for her exams.

Michelle Henderson competed in four events - 200m, show and two relays. Cath Flitcroft had driven across with her family, and ran her fastest time of the season for the 1500m. Chris Parker was thrown into the discus; a far cry from managing a Great Britain team in Japan to throwing the discus in Cudworth.

Audrey Foster competed in the longest race of the day for ladies - the 5000m.

By the time they had got to the last two events, the ladies knew they were out of the cup, but this didn't dampen their spirits for Michelle, Emma, Carol and Penny recorded the club's fastest time this year for the 4 x 100m relay.

In the 4 x 400m, Penny ran her fastest 400m of the season, with Michelle doing the same on the second leg. Chris went third and Cath fourth.
