SCHOOL leavers are set to benefit from a new style course at Bolton College which allows them to choose from a wide range of vocational options while getting the GNVQ Foundation in Information Technology.

Designed specifically for youngsters who want to gain an information technology qualification but are unsure of their future career path, the one year course offers supplementary options in Art and Design, Leisure and Tourism, Business Studies, Manufacturing, Health and Social Care and Engineering.

Though students are expected to choose one option from these, the facility exists to allow them to transfer to other options if they think they have made the wrong initial choice.

After gaining the qualification, students can then go on to consolidate their training through an Intermediate GNVQ or other qualification, or move into employment.

Though no qualifications are required to enrol on the course, students are required to attend an interview and are expected to have a real interest in Information Technology and related issues.

More information from Wayne Styles on Bolton 531411 extension 3396, or call into the college open evenings on June 11 and 12 at the Manchester Road Campus between 6-9pm. Course co-ordinator Wayne Styles said: "This course reflects current developments in the workplace.

"Computers and information technology play a major role in a wide variety of jobs nowadays and this course allows students to gain the necessary core skills in information technology while gaining other skills specific to the industries that they want to work in."
