FOOTBALL League clubs who blame television for all the game's problems are turning a blind eye to other factors which directly, or indirectly, they must solve themselves, said the League secretary, Alan Hardaker, today.
"The time has come for clubs to realise that television itself, and the entertainment it provides, will continue to keep people away from the grounds unless the interest value of the League game attracts the paying spectator."

AFTER many years as ringmaster to Bertram Mills' circus, Mr Frank Foster, who was born in Bolton, has now achieved the ambition of a life-time and has his own circus. He has opened at Edmonton, and Bolton visitors tell me that he is rightly proud of having his own 'big top' at last. Mr Foster was born in Astley Bridge, attended Holy Infant's School, and began his professional career as a call boy at the Theatre Royal.

ON SATURDAY afternoon the clerks employed by Mr George Woodhouse, architect of this town, celebrated the occasion of his marriage with Miss Knowles by a grand festive dinner, served at the house of Mr Brandwood, the Commercial Inn. The health of the newly married pair was drunk with musical honours and rounds of cheering. Thanks were also voted to Mr Woodhouse for generously providing the entertainment; several members of the company also contributed songs and recitations.
