UNEMPLOYED people in Halliwell are being offered the chance to learn computer skills that could help to get them back into the workplace.

A computer course has been set up with Bolton City Challenge funding to train unemployed people how to use information technology by involving them in real business exercises.

"Action for the Long Term Unemployed" will take place at the Wolfenden Community Centre and lasts for 26 weeks.

Students are entitled to an allowance for training and travel expenses.

Also they are given the chance to take a GNVQ level 2 in information technology. Siamac Jabbari, the course tutor, said that they would be teaching word-processing, data handling, accounting and desk top publishing.

Anyone wishing to know more about the course, either to take part in the training or to involve their business in the scheme, can contact Harold Heywood on 01204 362 696.
