TWO local car enthusiasts are celebrating after their cars were chosen to take part in the Classic and Sportscar Shows' Auto Windscreens Century of Motoring at the NEC next month.

Paul Cooper from Atherton owns a 1982 Ford Fiesta XR2 and the organisers have decided that it's a car of the century - one of the best of its type in the country and just right to take part in this classic car event.

The car, which has a low mileage, just 30,000 on the clock, has been a concourse winner, taking both class wins and the Car of the Day accolade.

Radcliffe classic car enthusiast, Shaun Tomlinson, also owns a car of the century!

His 1975 Escort RS2000 MK1, has been selected to appear in the show after being chosen as one of the best of its type in the country. The car was once used for rallying but was written-off after a smash.

Mr Tomlinson, a car body repair centre owner, bought the car as scrap and videoed the complete rebuild to its original state.

John Cole, organiser of the Century of Motoring show, said: "The cars selected by us for the event will be the only ones eligible to carry our Centenary plaque which will identify them as a special car for evermore."

The Classic and Sportscar Show will be the biggest event of its type in the UK with more than 2,000 vehicles on display from 1896 to the present day. It will be held at the Birmingham NEC on May 4 - 6.

Tickets are £10 each, with groups of 10 or more pre-ordered at £8.50 and advanced bookings can be made on 0121 767 4400.
