A BOLTON printing student and a colleague from Swinton have proved they are the best in Britain.

Jason Moore, 23, was one of six young printers to reach the finals of the 1995 Trainee of the Year in a competition organised by the British Printing Industries Federation.

The title was awarded to Swinton's Adrian Knott, 21, who was awarded £1,000 and attends City College, Manchester, with Jason.

The college, through its Wythenshawe base, has now provided the winner for the past two years.

Last year Adrian completed his City and Guilds course in Graphic Communications and is now studying for the BTEC National Certificate in Printing.

Jason, who works at Wallace Printers, Bolton, is doing a day release City and Guilds printing course.

Both students are now putting their skills to good use following the £1.5 million investment in new printing equipment and facilities at the printing school.

The funding, through the European Regional Development Fund and Manchester TEC, has enabled City College to give the school the most extensive refurbishment by any local training provider.
