ATHERTON Collieries went down 4-0 at Cammell Laird in the Carlsberg FA Vase.

The big spending Merseyside outfit were fresh from knocking Unibon Premier League side Marine out of the FA Cup but Colls more than matched the home side in the first period.

They went a goal down on 35 minutes. Within a minute of the restart Colls were two behind and the match was virtually over.

Colls continued to battle hard but a further two goals in the last couple of minutes gave the match a one-sided look which did not do the local side justice.

During midweek Colls achieved a deserved 1-1 draw away at Ramsbottom United.

Colls have no match this weekend because their opponents Skelmersdale United are involved in FA Cup action.
