REMEMBER Sasa Curcic? He was the one-season wonder who netted Wanderers seven goals and a £2.5 million profit.

A record £1.5m signing from Partizan Belgrade, he frustrated almost as much as he delighted during the 1995-96 season before being sold to Aston Villa for £4m. Burnden fans were outraged but the Super Serb's career went rapidly downhill until he vanished into relative obscurity.

But he left a legacy, scoring arguably the best of all Wanderers' Premiership goals.

It is all a matter of opinion and there will be many who would champion Jay Jay Okocha's vital solo effort against West Ham in April 2003 or maybe Gudni Bergsson's 35-yarder against Barnsley the previous season.

But was there ever a better goal than the one Curcic scored at Stamford Bridge in November 1995, weaving his way from the halfway line, through the entire Chelsea defence, then swapping passes with Alan Thompson before knocking the ball past a spellbound Dmitri Kharin?

Wanderers fans can judge for themselves following the release of the DVD "Bolton Wanderers FC 100 Great Premiership Goals".

They are all there, Youri Djorkaeff's at Blackburn, Okocha's free kick against Charlton, Per Frandsen's lifeline against Middlesbrough on the last day of the 2002-03 season . . . and all those crackers from Michael Ricketts who, like Curcic, faded dramatically after blossoming so impressively at Bolton.

Kevin Nolan, who secured his place in Wanderers' folklore with his matchwinners at Manchester United, is still banging them in, but for cool, quality finishing, can any compare to John McGinlay's magnificent strike against Middlesbrough in that first Premiership season?

Decide for yourselves . . .

l Bolton Wanderers FC 100 Great Premiership Goals, introduced by the BBC's Ray Stubbs, is priced £15.99.
