I THINK that the accuracy of the new road signs in portraying an image of Bolton are spot on!

This outside contractor has really pinned the town down.

Whether it is £90,000 well spent is another question.

I am talking about the slogan "Come on in, make yourself at home...! "

How else can we market Bolton - on its fine architecture, its unique leisure and recreational facilities, or maybe its niche shopping experience even?

It is doubtful.

The fact is that nothing stands out about Bolton enough to rival other towns at any level.

So what?

One might even find themselves on ethically higher ground to question the nature of inter-town competition itself in the first place.

Maybe that's a little harsh, maybe town slogans are justifiable from the customer perspective, so maybe we could have "Come to Bolton, it's slightly more easy on the eye than Runcorn and has 1.3 per cent less burglaries than Stockport..."

It's a kind of a trivial fact that the most notable thing about our town is that it's a place be at home. It's hardly a novelty. It's just an arbitrary statement about a town in the north of England.

I do hope it works, I do hope more people set up home here, so we can capture more council tax from them to spend on grand ideas like this. We are famous for it.
