DROP-IN sessions with the police have been introduced in Kearsley so residents can raise concerns about crime and anti-social behaviour.

It follows a heated public meeting last month where people living in the area voiced their frustration at the continuing problem of youths terrorising the local community.

They claimed that gangs of teenagers high on drugs and drink had been causing misery, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights.

Residents also complained that St Stephen's School in Bent Spur Road and St Stephen's Church in Manchester Road had become targets for vandals.

More than 60 people attended the meeting on October 12 which was called by church officials.

PC Liz Connor, community beat manager for Kearsley, has now set up drop-in sessions at the school in an attempt to address people's concerns and work more closely with the community.

The first one is being held at St Stephen's School on Tuesday, December 13, between 6.30pm and 8pm.

It will be on a first come first served basis and PC Connor and her colleague PC Glyn Armstrong will be on hand to discuss any issues.

PC Connor said: "We are aware of the problems in the area and the frustration felt by local residents.

"The sessions will give them an opportunity to raise any concerns they may have and help us work more closely with the community.

"If they are successful, we are planning to hold more in the New Year."

Posters and leaflets have also been distributed in the area.
