STEVE Jagielka is hoping to shake off a knee injury in time for Boxing Day, so he can sign off 2005 and with a bang.

The Accrington Stanley wide man limped out of Saturday's 2-0 FA Trophy win over Conference rivals Altrincham after being hacked down by full back Steve Aspinall.

But Jagielka has no intention of missing out on the Boxing Day trip to Halifax Town and is aiming to add to his tally of six goals on Monday.

"I took a knock on my knee in a bad tackle and I'm struggling a bit at the moment,"said the 27-year-old, who set up both goals at the weekend.

"But I've been working in the gym and I'm hoping to be fit for Monday."

And Jagielka is determined to turn from provider to scorer as soon as possible.

After scoring a wonder goal at the Shay last term, which was shortlisted in the the Non-League Paper's goal of the season, he has his sights set on a Boxing Day repeat.

"I've not scored for a few games so it would be nice to get one on Monday," he said.

"I did okay there last season and I'm looking forward to the game.

"It will be a good test for us after having so many home games.

"And against Halifax we'll be able to see where we're at.

"But we've been doing okay away from home generally and the lads are in a good mood after recent results."

However, Jagielka stressed that Stanley boss John Coleman and the players aren't getting carried away with their lofty Conference position.

"It's not the end of the season yet," he said.

"If we go up or make the play-offs - whatever happens - that's the time to celebrate because you can easily fall flat on your face in the meantime.

"The lads are just getting their head down, working hard and sticking to the things we've been doing well."
