I FEEL I have to reply to Allan Ramsay's letter of Wednesday, December 14, in which he suggests I should have considered the potential for driver distraction when I advocated a massive piece of public art for the town back in August, 2002.
All I can say is that the decision to commission the Spirit of Sport and install it on the roundabout in De Havilland Way was nothing to do with me.
My original piece referred vaguely to "somewhere like Queen's Park".
Also, it would be nice to think that the town had acted on my suggestion, but nobody has come forward so far to suggest credit or blame for the idea. It is probably just a coincidence.
Although I remain a supporter of the Spirit of Sport, I think Allan's point about the ban on RoadPeace memorial plaques deserves an answer from officialdom.
