CHRISTMAS shoppers contributed towards a gridlock around Bury town centre on Wednesday.
Visitors packing into Bury Market and the shopping centres and workers heading home, resulted in traffic jams throughout the afternoon. The main feeder roads into the town centre were blocked, with emergency vehicles caught up in the congestion.
One paramedic from Bury said: "It is an absolute nightmare. Traffic is just inching forward."
