BURY Council has launched its annual 'Don't Drink and Drive' campaign in a bid to improve road safety.
Officers say that both motorists and pedestrians should take care over Christmas, and that there is no 'safe' drinking limit.
In 2004, there were four serious and 22 minor drink-drive casualties in Bury. Almost half of pedestrians killed in road crashes between 10pm and 4am on Fridays and Saturdays are more than double the drink-drive limit.
Statistics show that, at double the legal limit, people are 50 times more likely to be involved in a collision. Around 100,000 drivers are convicted each year for drink driving.
Councillor John Byrne, for environment and transportation, said: "The only safe way is not to drink if you are driving."
