MODERNISATION plans were in the pipeline for 71 homes on the Elms Estate in Whitefield. Refurbishments costing £601,000 would mean new central heating systems, new kitchen and bathroom fittings and roof insulation for the properties.
REFUSE collections in Whitefield, Prestwich and Radcliffe were brought to a standstill by a dispute over bonus conditions. Around 50 men were involved in the strike.
