WORKINGTON 0, LEIGH RMI 0: Goalkeeper James Coates made an immediate impact for his new club when he kept a blank sheet on his debut.

Leigh's away form has been disastrous with 13 goals conceded in the last three games, but the former Mansfield keepers organisational ability and three superb saves made all the difference.

Manager Andy Nelson was delighted with his latest find, a former YTS at Manchester City, who played for Mansfield before he joined Worcester City, but found the travelling too demanding.

He said: "John Lamb is a good shot-stoper but doesn't talk.

"In contrast Coates talked and organised his defence and that made a big difference.

"We have a couple of young lads in our defence and they thought he helped them a lot.

"I am delighted we came away with a draw. We had our fair share of possession but although they had the better chances I thought the result was a fair one.

"We didn't have any of the schoolboy howlers that have plagued us all season."

The only disappointment was an injury to centre-half Liam Coyne, which resulted him being stetchered off with ankle damage.
