AS much as I admire the "Back the Baby Unit Campaign", I feel that reality has also to be brought into the argument.
Last year, the Hospital Trust Board announced that in order to balance the books for this financial year, wards would be closed, staff made redundant and the plans to build a multi-storey car park quashed.
Surely if Bolton is then going to extend the area it covers, the parking facilities which are currently in place, and about which nothing has been mentioned about upgrading them, are going to be abysmally inadequate.
They are insufficient, as the need to move certain specialties to Lever Chambers has proved, but to expect distressed parents and extended family members to drive round in order to find somewhere to park, while their babies or children are fighting for life, is insensitive.
Does the Hospital Trust intend to address this problem, or is it once again going to be left to the patients and relatives to become aware of the problem when they actually arrive on site.
I would be interested to know the Trusts views on the matter.
