A TYLDESLEY man who attacked his girlfriend when she came home in the early hours of the morning has been jailed for 18 months.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that Robert Webb, aged 32, assaulted Sarah Jones when she arrived home at 4am on September 10 last year.
Webb, who had been drinking, asked where she had been and punched her causing injuries to her head. He then grabbed her by the throat and bit her on the nose.
Miss Claire Jones, prosecuting, said that Webb let go of her to make himself a drink before dragging her by the feet and squeezing her throat, threatening to kill her.
She managed to lock herself in the bathroom but he got in and dragged her by the hair into the bedroom where she fell asleep.
When she awoke she went to her mother's home and then to hospital.
Webb, of Sale Lane, Tydesley, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.
Sentencing him Judge Denis Clark said: "Wives, partners, girlfriends don't have to take this any more, a battering because you have had too much to drink."
Miss Jane Greenhalgh, defending, said that Webb, who has previous convictions, accepted he was responsible for the injuries and expected to be held accountable for them.
