RADCLIFFE Boro manager Kevin Glendon has swooped to sign 29-year-old centre back Jonathon Smith from Northern Conference outfit Barrow.

The former Accrington Stanley player, who joined Barrow in the summer, joins the club initially on a month's loan and Glendon was delighted to make the signing.

"Having spoken to 'Smithy' he wants to be playing regular football which at the moment he is not getting at Barrow," said Glendon.

"I did try to sign him before he left Accrington, but to be fair I think he had already set his sights on Barrow also they were able to make him a much better offer than we could."

Glendon added: "He will bring some strength and experience to the team and provide a threat for us at corners and free kicks which we get so many of. Also, he will give us some added aerial strength in general play and, as you can see from his record, he is used to winning and has that winning mentality which, we want to inject in the club."

Smith looks set to make his debut on Saturday and goes straight into the squad for the clash with Leek Town.
